[that said, she's fucking ready this time. When he appears in her room, Val is crouched atop a dresser by the door, opposite her bed. And she just sort of. Leaps off it, toward him, letting out a strangled cry:]

AUUGUHRHGHGH!!

[ Loki doesn't scream but it is a near thing as he flails back onto the floor, nearly dropping the bottles which he clutches to his chest. ]

[From her place on his knees, Val cackles.]

[And then she hops up to her feet.]

Teach you to show up unannounced in my room again.

I told you I was coming! Both times!

[ He's so affronted!! Gingerly, he gets up and dusts his clothes, his clothes better be all right. ]

You made it sound like you were coming through the door like a normal person both times.

[She flops down on her bed, cross-legged, muddy boots and all.]

[ He scrunches up his nose. For more reasons than one. ]

When have any of us done anything vaguely resembling normality? That is clearly your fault for assuming so.

[Val rolls her eyes, but she lets it go.]

Kind of surprised you're being so accommodating, Loki. I didn't think you and Sif were exactly...great friends.

[ He smiles thinly. ]

No doubt she had a lot to say on the subject.

[ But Loki leaves it at that. It would be easy to tear into Sif, but he has no interest in painting that picture. ]

But I'm not here for her, am I?

Well, yeah.

[She shrugs. It had nothing to do with her, really.]

True. Which brings me to my next point. Booze?

[Holding out a hand expectantly.]

[ Loki rolls his eyes, passing it along. Asgardians. ]

[She takes the bottle and barely even reads the label, cracking it open.]

Thor doing alright? We went out hunting, but I dunno how good I was at like...helping him cope.

[ Loki seems to take the query seriously enough not to give a slippery answer, taking his own bottle in turn. Once, long ago, it wouldn't have mattered what lovers were there as long as it was still Thor and Loki. United. People come and go, but they would stay the same. And here they were.

But that was before Jane. Before everything else. ]

He will recover. He is not prone to the malaise of sadness for too long.

[Val nods, seeming to approve of that answer.]

Good. I don't...I'm not great at, like. Comforting people, really.

Neither am I.

[ It's never been his forte and he knows very clearly why it isn't Valkyrie's. ]

But I think it is important that we are there.

[She catches herself from saying anything too gross.]

You're his family. And I'm there, too. You can handle all the mushy shit, I can handle all the punching and taking out his feelings on shit-shit.

[dothelokimotion]

[ His lips twitch slightly. He's too perceptive not to have caught that, but at the very least, he does not make fun of her. This time. ]

Not the way I'd put it, but yes.

Yeah? [She stretches one leg out across the space between her bed and Hux's, nudging Loki in the knee with the toe of her boot.]

[ He nudges her back just to be petty. ]

[Gives him a massive eyeroll over the rim of her bottle.]

Sorry we didn't all go to fancy nerd school.

[ Loki sniffs pointedly. ]

I would have picked fancy nerd school over being raised by Odin.
